07/07/2013 - Henley Royal Regatta

August 11, 2013
Today is the final day of racing at Henley Royal Regatta and after a very tough race yesterday against the undefeated lightweight four from New Zealand, Matthew and his crew now line up against the South African lightweight four who won Gold at the London Olympics last summer. South Africa beat the New Zealand heavy weight four yesterday to secure their place in the final today. After the Umpire had given the starting orders and begun the race, Great Britain moved ahead to take the lead by the end of the island. Throughout the race South Africa put in many pushes to try and come back on terms with Matthew's crew but every attempt was brushed aside as Matthew''ss four took control of the race. Moving through the grandstands Great Britain opened their 1 length lead to 1 1/2 lengths lead which they held until crossing the line in 1st place. This is Matthew 3rd title at Henley Royal.

Today is the first day of the second World Rowing Cup of the 2013 season. The event is being held at Eton Dorney on the 2012 Olympic Lake, where Great Britain found much success last Summer. This weekend is the one dreaded by most Rowers who specialize in Sweep as it requires not only a 2000m ergo test on the Saturday but also a 5000m Sculling race in a single scull on the Sunday. However this year due to bad weather the Sunday has been cancelled meaning that there will only be a 2000m ergo test.

On a Cold Saturday morning Matthew turned up to a sports hall in Boston Lincolnshire along with hundreds of other athletes wanting to be selected at the end of the year to represent thei...

14/09/2012 - European Championships

November 25, 2012
This weekend saw Matthew face his toughest opposition of the year, comprising of Four Olympic Crews who had previously raced at the London 2012 Olympics. Matthew and Kieran had made short work of their previous opposition at the U23 World Championships with a quick start, but here at the European Championships, were beaten out of the blocks in their heat by a Spanish pair. This led to fierce racing over the 2000m course and a huge sprint finish with the Spanish crossing the line just 0.1 seco...
