After final trials, all athletes went through a week of
intense seat racing to create a squad ranking. Based on this ranking, athletes
were placed in crews which best suited them. Matthew was selected to represent
Great Britain once again
in the Coxless four with the same crew from Australia, but this time Matthew

This weekend is the last set of Great Britain trails to be held
this year. The Venue is on the Great
Britain training lake, Sonning. The way in
which this trial is set up, is that on Saturday all athletes compete in a 1900m time
trail. The top 12 then move through to the A/B semis which are carried out
later that same day. The top three from both of the two A/B semis move onto the
A final which is held on Sunday, the rest go into the B final. The order of the

This weekend we had the heats of the first World Cup of 2013
held in Australia
on the 2000 Olympic Course. Not only is this the first World cup of the year
but this is also the first World cup of Matthew's rowing career and first
international race as a member of the Great Britain Senior team. Matthew is competing
