23/10/2011 GB Trials Weekend 1st Assessment

This weekend Matthew has been in Boston Lincolnshire competing at the Great Britain Rowing trials, an event that takes place every year and the first of many assessments through out the rowing calender. Saturday was a gruelling 2000m ergo which Matthew placed 20th. Today Matthew moves to the water in his new Stampfli single scull. The course is over 5000m and takes around 18minutes depending on weather conditions. Conditions were a cross head wind that turned into a strong holding head wind. ...

18/09/2011 Finals day at the European Rowing Championships

Today saw Matthew line up next to some of the World's best Athletes. To their right was Poland and to their left Croatia, both very experienced crews. When the starting light switched on, Great Britain flew out of the blocks leading the field once again. At each marker Great Britain held their lead and fueled by their defeat yesterday, increased the gap between them selves and the rest of the field crossing the line in 1st place with Poland 2 seconds behind and Croatia 7 seconds leaving Ukrai...

17/09/2011 Knocked into B final

Today saw a tight race unfold with Matthews' crew on the unlucky side. All crews went out hard in the A/B semis today with Great Britain leading the way. At the half way marker it became a three way battle between Great Britain, Spain and Slovenia. Coming into the final 500m it was still any one's game but when crossing the line gaps had opened  enough to create a margin to place Great Britain 3rd and therefore into the B finals tomorrow.

13/09/2011 Matthew heads out to the Senior European's held in Bulgaria

Today, Matthew flew out to Bulgaria in preparation for the European Rowing Championships. Conditions and weather seem to be set for a great few days of racing. The competition is made up of senior crews who recently raced at the Senior World rowing Championships and U23 crews from the U23 World rowing Championships.
